We have 3 Apple TV's in the house, one is connected to ethernet, the other two to WiFi. I definitely recommend connecting to Ethernet if it's available, but it's not mandatory. It simply reduces the load on the household WiFi, which can get extreme when there are multiple devices all trying to stream different media

Looking for any suggestions.. I recently moved my modem into the same room as my Apple TV 4k and decided to use the Ethernet cable to give it a stronger connection.
